Looking to relocated to Delray. Have spent a good deal of time investigating the area and Palm Beach County and believe Delray is the right location for me. Spent a fair amount of time walking around Del Ida Park and think this would be a good location as the neighborhood seems to be improving. Can you provide feedback if you're familiar with this location? Is it safe? How noisy is the train? Does anyone know the timeline for the street improvements (lights and sidewalks)?

I also liked Nassau Street, although not much for sale in that location.

Thanks!

We live in Del Ida Park, bought in 2011 and renovated one of the old homes. The area definitely seems to be in the upswing with all the new building (i counted about 10 on my last dog walk) going on in the immediate area, all of which are selling in 90 day timeframe over $800k in price. Now if we could just get rid of the few ramshackle halfway houses (which the city council is still trying to make happen...). We havent had any issues at all with crime, it is really more of an issue of those few ramshackle houses being an eyesore than any real threat. I will say we do make sure the car doors are locked at night, but those are the same kind of precautions we would take most places - we had two car break-ins when we lived in Dallas so we just got super viligant about basic security. At the local CVS and Publix one might spot the occasional ne'er do well that looks like they escaped rehab to grab a six, but no one has ever bothered us at all. Everyone in the neighborhood is very nice and friendly, a nice mix of families, professionals, artists, etc. and the overall tone of the neighborhood is one where people are investing in their homes and upkeep.

The proximity to things to do is well AWESOME but you probably already know that story . Now on to THE TRAIN. We are about a half mile from the tracks closer to Swinton and we definitely hear it. However, I just invested in those cheap foam ear plugs and also downloaded a white noise app and that pretty much eliminated the sound. If I forgo the plugs and just do the white noise app I can sleep. So I would say yes we hear it, but can I work around it, yes. Also the town is supposedly still considering making it a quiet zone which would eliminate it completely, they just need to pony up the $$$. My hope is that all the new condos that are planned to go up on federal close to george bush will finally make it happen. I havent researched any plan for sidewalk and lighting improvements, but I know there are a lot of improvements slated once the Atlantic Ave East project gets going.

Net-net we love the neighborhood and if the recent real estate sales trend is any indication I expect things will continue to improve.
