What is the job market down there like for dental hygienist? Is it wise to rent for a year before buying a house? What communities should we look at while renting? We are in our early 30s. A family is on the way so we need a friendly neighborhood... great schools... 10-20 minutes from airport, not too far from the beach yet not too close either because I don't want to be flooded during disaster seasons...

There are numerous areas that would fit what you are looking for.
Renting is a good idea to get to know the area, but the market is rebounding quickly so buying now could be beneficial in the long run.
I'm in my early 30's myself and really enjoyed living in the Gardens and Jupiter, but ended up moving out to the Wellington area for affordability. We may end up moving back once we build up some equity though...
All depends on the lifestyle you are looking for and the price range you are looking to stay in.

If things work out, job wise, we will stay for 10 years then move back to CA (where parents are).

With both income, we are hoping to find a 2 stories house, 3-5 bedrooms, with a backyard not too big... $250k - $300. Is that doable?

I've done some research on here, it looks like Jupiter might not be for us in terms of affordability. Gardens seem "reachable".

Ita, Jupiter seems $$ for itself. Plus, where is Target? a gourmet deli or two? cool shops and wine bars? Had to keep going to PBG anyway. And correct me if I'm wrong, but pbg has a great elementary school (we all know this) and kids can easily test in and apply to any of the PBCounty middle and high schools available. Many kids we know here are absolutely not going to their 'zoned' school. VERY interesting choices if anyone goes or has been to the Palm BEach county (public) school expo in West Palm to browse and learn!
