I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the neighborhood Palm Beach Plantation and if anyone may know if it is in a nice safe area? I've been reading horror stories about how unsafe west Palm beach is so before I send my hubby to this neighborhood I wanted to see if it was worth it..
thanks!

Palm Beach Plantation is actually in Lake Worth off Lantana Blvd.... not West Palm Beach. I think Lake Worth is a very decent town. It has its bad sections, but I don't think where Palm Beach Plantation is located is one of them.

You'll keep on reading "horror stories" about West Palm Beach crime because of one zip code in West Palm Beach that borders Riviera Beach, which is full of poverty and crime. It's an underserved rep though, in my opinion. Imagine Harlem setting the standard and perception for Manhattan.

There's another Palm Beach Plantation neighborhood in Royal Palm Beach. It's a very safe suburban area.

However, there's definitely more crime in West Palm Beach than in "one zip code". Palm Beach Plantation, being outside of the city, however, is very safe, provided it's the same one I'm thinking of.

You're right. Parts of 33401 are awful too North of Banyan. 33407, I believe is typically THE zip code to stay out of.

33407 was my zip code for a couple years before I moved up to the the New York City area. The only crime I really witnessed was a lot of folks in my apartment complex living off Welfare when they didn't have to.

Which isn't to deny that there's any crime in that area, but folks exaggerate how dangerous places are . . . it would be far less safe for someone who regularly sells drugs, belongs to a gang, deals illegal weapons, etc., but that should go without saying.

If you come back to West Palm Beach, there are so many different little areas and neighborhoods even within the zip codes. I believe 33407 has Northwood Hills and Old Northwood, etc.... which are really nice neighborhoods.... they just border on Crapville USA, lol. They're TRYING to make these areas better, but sometimes the people in these neighborhoods are their own worst enemies.

Yeah, I know how it's been changing--I've been back there many times, although I only visited the streets by that last apartment once (it was on 9th by Railroad--the heart of cracktown basically). . . I'm not sure if they've started to do that area over yet. When I'm living in South Florida again and have more time to putz around I'll check it out.

I can barely even remember any longer what the neighborhood right next to Twin Lakes (where I went to high school) used to look like . . . it's changed so much.

I know the plan was to do a CityPlace-style makeover of that whole area south of Palm Beach Lakes (and maybe a bit north), but it seems they cut the ambitiousness of that back a bit, even before the current economic problems.
