I was always amazed by the fact that they were building a $150 million exit at Fairmont 1/4 of a mile from the old exit. It seemed a bit odd when they were claiming they couldn't do other projects for lack of money but they somehow pulled that one off. $150 million for an exit. Well, as is often customary for WV, it seems some back room deals made this happen and politicians benefitted from it monetarily. WSAZ in Huntington is trying to get info on the issue from Manchin's administration but they are claiming they can't release it ala Rod Blagojovich even though they legally should. Conveniently, it will take months to go through the courts to get an order to release the info. Sad.

Route 19 was a four lane road leaving Beckley until it got to the next county. Apparently THAT county did not vote for the then current governor so the road remained a two-lane road.

Interesting.

Didn't expect Manchin to implode with prison time, but I'm opposed to him continuing in politics anyway. Saw a political advertisement, calling him a rubber stamp for the Hussein. Appropriate.

As super-delegate, Manchin voted in opposition of the Democrat majority in West Virginia for the Hussein in the primary elections, with stated reason for doing so in the newspapers was, "He's got it!" So why anyone except cheerleaders for the Hussein (a/k/a socialists) would want Manchin to represent them in the Senate is beyond my understanding.

Service Employees International Union (SEIU), an open advocate of amnesty for illegal aliens, connected to Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), having amongst other charges, voter fraud, are typical of the support of Manchin for Senator.

Birds of a feather.

While Manchin withholds this information, people will vote for him anyway. Can somebody please explain how this is possible?

That exit has been under construction for almost a decade, pre-dating Manchin's governership. Wonder how far back it goes.

Yes people will but current polls basically have Raese and Manchin tied. This can't help.

The 150+ million dollar 'Road to-from No Where (Fairmont) is both a fitting symbol of a first class 'Crap Town and the people who have ran it for decades...

The 'round-a-bouts on the magic mile are a paved metaphor of driving in circles (as is most of everything in the Friendly City)...remember this 2% of that boondoggle was for B & O Tax on every single contractor and 1% was for the Building Permit...

I hope the investigators look into the New State of the Art water treatment plant and the retirees who are ssafely out of town on that one...

Elections bring out investigations and this one is a 'Doozie..

Hope it all goes well and a few of the old guard go directly to jail...lol

How I love Wv politics and that room in Atlanta near the prison golf course...
the "Archie Suite...
hope it gets a little 'time share occupancy soon...lol

According to articles I found, planning for the project began in 1991 but the construction part of the project didn't begin until 2003. It has received the $150 million in funding in portions, including a $22 million allocation of State Highway funds from Manchin himself. Part of the purpose of that $22 million was to buy 90 remaining properties needed to finish the project. If Manchin had insider info and gave that info to a close associate who then purchased those properties and was paid more for them than they were worth, that would have gotten him in trouble. We won't know until they release the documents though. I would imagine that Mollohan, who was already under investigation for such deals, might be a part of the investigation as well since he too secured money for the project. Only time will tell.

An old co-worker in Clarksburg told me about the million dollar bridge in Fairmont- an older but similar issue it sounds like.

Meh- greasy crap like this happens all the time. If they find fraud I hope they fry them, but most of this stuff goes on every damned day. Greed exudes regardless of party.

The entire State is a huge political mess, dominated by energy interests that take out more than then put back. That includes the owners and the unions, and their political hacks in Charleston. Like national politics, we need a whole clean slate of politicos running things.
