I just came upon this article today about Col. Ralph Albertazzie passing away this week. He was an 88 year old veteran who is known for being one of the pilots of Air Force One.
I met the Colonel in the late 1980's in his office at the truckstop he owned off I-81 near Martinsburg. I was a young guy, fascinated by military and flight, who was lucky enough to be assigned as his account rep for telephony. His office was a museum of flight memorabilia and he seemed to revel in sharing information on any topic you asked him about. If I recall, he was especially fond of his dealings with Chuck Yeager.
Anyway, I was really impressed by the Colonel and saddened to hear of his passing. Godspeed, good man...
