""The Pride of West Virginia" may get prime spot in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The nearly 400 members of “The Pride of West Virginia,” West Virginia University’s Mountaineer Marching Band, may help lead off the 2016 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the 90th year for the parade.

The Mountaineer Marching Band was one of ten bands selected from 175 applicants and is the only collegiate band scheduled to march in the 2016 parade, a holiday tradition in New York and across the U.S."

Pretty cool, hopefully for their sakes they get some air time and mentioned. Instead of the cameras always bein focused on the balloons and the announcers themselves.....

Regardless of when the television cameras are actually focused on the parade, the opportunity to perform on such a stage in front of 3 million spectators is a great experience for those young people, and also for the one long retired person who has participated in the band for years. Those are memories that last a lifetime.

I've been waiting for over a month for somebody to start a thread about this.

Macy's parade is great fun for the participants. One of the things you can't really see on TV is how LONG it is. If I remember from when our high school band went (back in the 1960s), the route was about 6 miles long. I hope the band has some other activities planned while they are in New York. This is probably as far from home as some of those kids have ever been.

They will have a blast.

This is great!

But, I do have one wish. The uniforms are pretty awful. I hate them. They were pretty innovative and cool when they were introduced, especially when formations on the field used the cape to change general affect and color perception of the performance. But they no longer do that. The design is very old, I think they started wearing this combination in the mid-1970's. I think the first time I saw them was at the Peach Bowl, but they may have been older than that. They look like a 5 year's old attempt at playing superman with a bath towel.

I am very excited for this! I hope that they stick with the white "feather topping?" instead of the yellow ones they have used on occasion. I rarely watch the parade anymore, but I will certainly this year.

I kind of agree with this, but I do like that the uniforms feature the capes. I would address the front portion of their tops.
