One block from the Pleasantville train station. Great town and School District. Still appears to be some units available for rent.
Thank you. But this is a bit too far. Makes the commute at or above 1 hour into Grand Central. Also, we have been to this town (visited some acquaintances), and it seemed too rural for our liking.
My wife doesn't drive, so we want to be (ideally) near some kind of downtown.

Pleasantville too rural? I have never heard that comment about the area.
You sure you were in actually in Pleasantville proper and not Briarcliff Manor or Thornwood? It is probably one of the most walkable towns in the county- that building is one block from Downtown- and Pleasantville has a real downtown with shops, restaurants and even art galleries and an art house movie theater.
The school doesn't even offer busing since the town is so walkable.

Off the top of my head, the only place that you can really get around without driving is in White Plains. There are many high rise buildings downtown near the train station. The problem is that the schools are average compared to a lot of Westchester.

Mamaroneck seemed close to perfect, until I saw what happened in 2021 when one of the buildings I was considerering was almost completely submerged under water. People lost their cars and valuables (those who lived on the lower floors). Seems that it is very vulnerable to the catastrophic flooding. I assume the flood insurance reflects that as well.

yes, that's a con of Mamaroneck. In some ways it's also a pro in that there is a premium of living near the water.
Rye, Larchmont & Rye Neck (norther Mamaroneck & southern Rye that have a school district) also have flooding problems due to their proximity near the water.
Another option is the apartments on Garth Road near the Scarsdale Train Station. Most of these apts are part of the Eastchester School District. They are not new newer buildings but there are many different apt buildings to choose from.
