Hi, I would like to install the carpet in the basement family room and stairs. Maybe 600 SF. Where is a good place in westchester to buy carpet with nice installation? I do not know any local store except carpet one in Tarrytown. Is it good compared with Home Depot, Lowes, or Costco? I guess the big box stores will charge more. Any information is helpful. Thank you very much!
I just bought some area rugs from Cleanrite Carpet in New Rochelle. They have a tiny showroom with hours by appointment only. They will also come to your home with samples if you have an idea of what you're looking for. Nice small business, very good service/installation - I was very happy with my experience. I didn't shop around so I don't know how they compare with big box stores in terms of pricing/service. They also do carpet cleaning. Cleanrite Carpet Co.
We used Empire Today (you know, the ones who advertise on TV for next day installation...) for our basement playroom and bedroom and they did a runner on our basement stairs as well. Berber for heavy traffic/heavy wear. I have to say that they did a fantastic job. The space is HUGE (1000+ sq ft) with lots of corners and after 3 years it still looks perfect. It did take them 9 hours to do the job mind you, because they only ever have 2 people installing (I asked), but that was my only beef with them. I'd use them again for sure.
If you want nice rugs or a nice runner for your stairs I'd suggest ABC Carpet. They're in the Bronx. When we move I'll be using them again for the runner on our stairs. Excellent work.
I recently went to a lot of places looking for area rugs. There is Alan Carpet on Central Ave (around Yonkers), which came recommended by a co-worker. Also, there is a carpet store on Central Ave in the parking lot past Babies R Us. I didn't purchase from either so I can't speak to the service there, but both had helpful sales people in the store.
I have to concur that ABC in the Bronx is a good place to go. You can get good deals on really fine carpet remnants and they'll edge it and cut it to make a rug. Plus they will negotiate.
