As the job market in Manhattan has been very tight for people with my experience, I am thinking of expanding my search to Westchester county. A lot of the income tax threads here are related to living in Westchester and work in NYC. Does anyone know about income tax for people living in Queens but work in Westchester, i.e. do they have to pay NYC income tax on the income earned outside of NYC?
What about the commute? Google map shows it'll take me at least 2 hours to commute from Forest Hills to White Plains/Tarrytown area by public transportation. Is it worth buying a car, which means monthly insurance payment and gas cost, not to mention finding street parking is not that easy in Forest Hills? I thought about car pooling, but was not able to locate any site showing people doing the daily commute on this route. It would be very helpful if anyone could provide car pooling/ride share info and suggestions about buying a car.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
