Seems like there are about 250 kindergarteners (and 250 first graders) in the school which feels huge to me. I have heard the school is wonderful and nurturing, but I would love to hear from those of you who have/had a child in the school. I am concerned there might be too many K & 1 classes for my shy child- I could see it being overwhelming- especially for a timid child coming from a tiny nursery school.
My younger daughter just graduated from Eastchester High School. The district was very good for her and my son, both of whom were very different academically.
Waverly has a very good reputation, but I have no idea where these 250 kids are coming from. My son's class had just over 200 and my daughter's I think had 215. It's not as if there is tons of vacant land where new houses are being built. A complete mystery to me.
I do know that moving to Eastchester is a goal of many young families who live in or want to move from nearby districts that have bad reputations, but cannot afford places like Rye, Bronxville, Larchmont, or Scarsdale. Or they don't want to settle for a crappy house in those districts.
I have 2 boys in the district. We LOVED Waverly. So nurturing, not at all intimidating. Having only K & 1 in the school allows staff to cater to that age group. Your child will love it.
