I was wondering if somebody could suggest a nice area to vacation in the Hudson Valley. I am looking for a place that has natural scenery, nice villages nearby and would probably cost around $2000 per week or less to rent a house in a wooded area or area with views of the Hudson or a lake. We have visited Croton-on-Hudson, Woodstock, New Paltz and Gardiner and I thought there might be other interesting places.

I'd recommend something in Otsego County surrounding Cooperstown. The nearby lake would be Otsego Lake then you can go to Cooperstown for the village stuff as well as the baseball museum and Fenimore arts museum. If you want Hudson River area, check out Tivoli or Germantown (or Chatham further inland with farms).

FYI the Columbia County Fair is coming up Sept. 2-7 which would make Chatham or Kinderhook good options for that timeframe (or Germantown which is 45 mins away from the fair):

You can easily find something in southern Columbia or northern Dutchess in that price range Elizaville, Germantown, Millerton, Red Hook, Rhinebeck.
