"Ridge Hill shopping center will see facelifts in the new year as the developer seeks to encourage gatherings and attract new businesses.

The first step of the phased project includes repurposing the outdoor public area by adding gathering space and activity.

Re-envisioned as Park Plaza, a 17,000-square-foot plaza on the center’s north will be redeveloped as a “family-friendly activity zone.” A fountain will be removed and give way to greenery and a seating area. The exterior facades of the surrounding buildings will also be renovated.

At the heart of the center, known as Town Square, a pedestrian-only zone and open space for events will be added. The pedestrian-only zone is designated between Archer Avenue and Cole Street, where the developer aims to draw more new restaurants and entertainment businesses. The former central plaza will be expanded by about 10,000 square feet to build a covered performance spot surrounded by seating, potted plants and fire pits.

Meghann Hongach, general manager at Ridge Hill, said the goal is to build a community and create an experience for guests.

"Our event attendance has increased so much since we introduced more consistent event programming that it is putting pressure on our existing activation spaces,” Hongach said. “We've enjoyed seeing the crowds continuously grow and look forward to being able to bring even more of our neighbors together soon."

The redevelopment comes after a $220 million acquisition in 2022, which was Westchester County’s second largest commercial real estate transaction of the year. North American Properties, Nuveen Real Estate and Taconic Partners had formed a joint venture partnership to transform the 74-acre property into “a preeminent mixed-use destination serving the northern metropolitan area.” The plan included upgrading the public spaces, street design and parking amenities.

Hongach said the developers will continue exploring options to reshape the property and may unveil the next step in the next months."

The real way to get people to Ridge Hill is make parking less expensive and the process to pay for parking less onerous. I live a mile or 2 from Ridge Hill and almost never go there for exactly those reasons.
