Hello everyone!

I'm having a little bit of trouble deciphering what brokers, landlords, and my own searches on craigslist present. I find places that allow pets for a small fee, and rent for around $1100 in various areas. Brokers tells me that at minimum I'd find a place for $2400 a month! He also mentioned that I wouldn't find a place decent enough for a price that low. I spoke to one homeowner for nearly 20 minutes and he would have rented me an apartment on the spot if I had been in the area; I'm sure that's not the case everywhere...

How much do those in similar situations pay a month? I'm moving to NY from CA with my girlfriend, and two little dogs (under 15lbs), and frustrated over searching for a pet friendly apartment for under $1300.

Thanks in advance!

If you are talking NYC....all those brokers are right....peripehery of NYC...like the boros...you can find something decent for $1000+...NYC a shoe box starts at $2000+...which I have yet to figure out why....NYC is not all that.....rent from homeowners....in the boros....sheepsheadby Brooklyn is fabulous...although the train into NYC can be 45 min!!!!! In an apt building find out if the place allows pets...don't tell them you have two....and sneak them in.....extra for pets, oh please.....Brooklyn has tons of apartments and it is the nicest of all the boros...IMHO.

Looking near the surrounding area of White Plains. I've been in touch with a lot of people, even one lady that laughed at my situation! I thought it was funny, but I still had her check with the super if it were ok and I just hung up...

Looking at New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Port Chester, Valhalla, etc..... Even out to Stamford, CT. I consider Peekskill a bit too far out, but for a great price I'll live there.

Surprizingly enough, I'd be a very reliable tenant. I would never want to move out again with these dogs in the immediate future.
