I want to ask a pro if its possible to change the grading of my property so that the water runs away from the house. Who do I call for that, a landscaper?

Any recommendations? Someone who won't sell me something I don't need.

And I also want to redo the driveway, is that landscapers too? It's hard to do a search for these things without knowing the business type. Thanks!

Hmm, interesting. Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. You cannot just change the grade of your property and affect the water flow however you choose, ESPECIALLY if you will be directing water onto someone else's property. What with all the hills and flooding issues around here this is a BIG issue.

We are going through this right now. Our lot is sloped and we are having it leveled. The amount of work that needed to be done by engineers to show that we would not be affecting the water flow and that we would keep all of the water that falls on our lot on our lot (think 30 drainage tanks)... Then getting the permits, getting past the board, then the village engineer, it's taken quite a while.

Call a landscape architect and ask if they do grading. We called a company that did a major job near some family so we knew what they were capable of. Also, it definitely helps to hire a company who has worked in your town before, so they know the people and the ins and outs of the code and the people in charge.

Good luck.
