We also want at least 2 acres but also want year round families in our neighborhood as we have 2 young children. Good schools are also very important. Is there a place in North Carolina like this?

Thanks for any suggestions!
Anything is possible with the right amount of cash
And it also depends on what your kids are into. We have acreage, in the mountains, there are really good schools here. But...if you don't go to church, which we don't...you will spend a lot of time alone. Families in the small town I live in, do their socializing in church.
I'm sure it's out there, I don't know what kind of budget you are on, the closer you get to Asheville, the smaller the property for the money. If you go out a little further, toward Marion, there are mountain properties with more for the money. I am south of Marion near the South Mountain range, also a state park. The developers haven't found this area...yet. But I imagine someday they will, there's still a lot of open land here. I've been told our schools are really good here, but I homeschool, so I couldn't tell you. We moved here a few years ago.
I think it also depends on what "urban amenities" you need and how close they need to be. Asheville is the largest city in the mountains and the ONLY one that I consider "urban" at all. But you will not get a two -acre parcel in the city, unless you have a few million to spare.
There are some nice smaller towns within a half hour to an hour of Asheville, more affordable but I don't know enough about them to advise. Good luck!
I can't think of a neighborhood in Buncombe county/Asheville that offers two acre lots. Lots tend to be larger in the Weaverville neighborhoods, especially west of the interstate (New Stock and Hwy 25/70 exits, namely), but I think even those are <2 acres.
Thanks so much to those who offered helpful responses, I am just researching my options right now.
