Donna, gas logs in your situation is a wise choice. Wood burning may be more visually appealing but, as you describe yourself, you don't need the work, wood collecting, residual mess and fumes of burning wood.

I agree,
I will turn 60 in December. Eventually, hauling logs won't be as much fun as when I was younger.

I was totally cured from wanting real wood logs for aesthetic reasons after my late husband told me this when we moved here several years ago:

"Be careful when picking up the logs honey, black widow spiders love to hide in there."

And snakes like to hide in woodpiles.

Donna, My current home has 2 wood burning FPs and every home I've had (in 2 different states) has had one. My next home will be a gas FP - for all the reasons already stated, but mostly bugs & snakes.

Gas would certainly be more convenient and cleaner if you are not wanting it for heating purposes. You could always download one of those apps that has sounds and you can play the sound of a crackling fire when you are using your gas fireplace!
