I have narrowed my search to Weaverville, Leicester and Candler (Weaverville is my 1st choice), I've been prequalified, and I am willing to do the initial legwork (i.e., research the home and surrounding neighborhood BEFORE wasting the agent's time). Price range - $175,000 - $200,000.
If someone knows an agent who is good at following through, could you please make a recommendation?
Thanks!

Good Luck! I've had to get rid of 4 agents on a home I was trying to sell. You're on the right track, meaning "do it yourself". You might save money if you're very careful and methodic, after all "its your money" you're spending.By computer, you can research your area of most houses meeting you criteria, obtain (by computer) a copy of the current state of "North Carolina Offer to Purchase & Contract" along with instructions and vigorously do your homework on this form, find a reputable inspector for the house you've selected and find you a reputable 'Closing Attorney" to make sure any (NCOTPC) agreement terms and "Due Diligence" between you and seller has been met/performed which legally binds the "NC Offer to Purchase & Contract" agreement. Your attorney can help you with this form also. You don't really need an real estate agent. And you can sometimes negotiate a better discount deal with the seller if a real estate agent isn't involved. Because the agent's % fee comes out of the seller's wallet. I wish I had a serious home buyer come straight to me while I was trying to sell my home. I would've given a discount. Because I wouldn't had to pay a real estate agent, which is also a way to keep housing cost down. Since the cost of building materials are skyrocketing.
