We're coming to Tryon this weekend to just get a feel for the area. While there, we'd like to take a drive through some of the other towns, dipping into South Carolina. We're thinking following a clockwise route through Landrum, Campobello, Greer and Traveler's Rest.

Any other suggestions for warm, small towns that we wouldn't want to miss either on the way, or on the way back to our base in Tryon?

Visited Saluda- beautiful little town, unfortunately it's just as cold as here.

There's significant difference in temperatures between Saluda and Tryon?

Yes. There's a thousand foot difference in elevation between the two.

Based on your previous posts about Tryon, I think you'll find Greer is too big for your tastes. Wade Hampton Blvd. is a six lane road covered with up with box stores.

Have you looked towards Rutherford County (to the east)? Rutherfordton, Spindale and Forest City. Larger than the Tryon and Columbus area, but nothing overwhelming. It's in the opposite direction of the other towns you listed, though.

Are you driving down or flying? You can catch some of these on your way in depending on what direction you're coming from.

The average January high temperature is 49 degrees in both locations, and the average low is 32 degrees in Tryon and 28 in Saluda. That is not a significant difference.

That's what I told my wife about Greer. We're driving. I'll check out Rutherfordton, Spindale and Forest City

You should also check out Mt. Airy, Dobson, N. Wilkesboro, Elkin and Taylorsville on your way.

It's significant enough to me. I wish I had an additional 5 degrees on a daily basis here in Maryland.
