When we first moved into our current house in Johnston County we were on well water,we eventually had to install a water filtration system since there was too much iron in the water.
Any big issues with the well water in the NC mountains?
Thanks!
It would totally depend on what area of the mountains . . . there is arsenic, for example, in trace amounts in my water and it isn't well water. My parents have a well and their water is delicious, soft and no problem with iron. They are in a completely different location, though, than where my water is sourced.
As far as iron in particular, I don't know anyone who has problems with iron in their well water around Blowing Rock or Boone.

OP might ascertain that their well is not on a multi-family well.
Water test(s), (more than a one time shot is rec'd), are easy, inexpensive and pretty accurate for that sample(s).
I would get it tested before buying, or building.

Every County has full testing service, easily accessed via County site.
There are also some private labs listed on Web.
Our HOA, (really a no rules HOA), did monthly testing on our 'community well' for years. We used the county, the EPA knucklehead bureaucracy in Raleigh, and a private lab.

Thanks everyone for the info! Luckily it's not a shared well and it will be tested sometimes this week, they're going to test for radon as well.
