I know that this has been discussed before--but I didn't find any suggestions that would work for me.
My husband and I are in need of haircuts--we have been putting off finding a salon for too long. We are retired and, we live off of 74-A, a few miles past the Blue Ridge Parkway.
We are hoping not to have to go into downtown Asheville for this. I just need someone who can do a classic bob, with bangs. I am no longer coloring my hair. My husband is letting his hair get a little longer--but not too long--just not the corporate short cut anymore.

Sounds like I wrote this question . We rented in North A. and settled in the South part of town. Left corp. for good and stopped highlighting and styling my hair. The prices keep going up here. Paying $40 for a cut or trim + tip was okay but paying (last I checked) $60 or more isn't. A ten-year-old kid across the street let her hair grow out and went to Locks for Love to have @12" cut off (I think that's free) for kids who need wigs. So, for the time being, my hair is long and I need about three more inches to get a shorter cut.
I've been to Willow's Dream in the City and I know you don't want to go there. That's where prices first started going up. They aren't worth it for us. Then, I went to someone who created a space in her house. I didn't ask about the cost. She trimmed my hair and it cost $60. That's when I gave up.
If you want cheaper, look for Groupons. You won't know what you're going to get but it is cheap and locations of the salon may be anywhere. Wish I could help but finding a good stylist who's affordable is almost an oxymoron.

The main reason for not going downtown is the parking. I stopped coloring my hair a couple of years ago because I was tired of sitting in the salon for so long. Also it was rough on my hair. I like it natural a lot more now. We were spoiled and we both went to the same stylist for the last 10 years. I usually go about two months between trims, but it has been a bit longer this time. We were used to paying a premium for our stylist--but it is always nice to find a bargain--as long as the quality is there.
I have very difficult hair, and the best I've found is Natural Impressions in Biltmore Park Town Square. Prices are in line with others around here, so not a bargain, but worth it to me to get such a good cut.
I understand. Willow's Dream (WD) moved to Lexington downtown and do have their own parking. Especially now that tourist season is slowing down, the likelihood of finding a space there would be easy. But, again, with the increase in price it wasn't worth it.
When we first moved here, it was and remains a crap shoot finding someone who's good and affordable. We went to WD until their prices shot up last year. Before that, we both tried various places outside the City and were unable to find anyone who was decent. I went so far as going to Bristol, VA where a friend there recommended someone. That's a bit of a crazy drive, so I went there once and it's how desperate I was. She was good and relatively inexpensive until you calculate in the 180 miles RT .
It's our experience that finding "good" doctors and hair stylists are the toughest part of a move. I had a stylist where we used to live who did my hair really well. We lived in the area for some time before I found her through a friend.

We both had our hair cut by Catherine. We are very pleased. She listened to what we wanted, and was meticulous. We already have appointments for our next visit.
While we were at the Square, we went to OP Taylor's Toy Store. We also enjoyed that-and found some quirky gifts for our kids.
