The hospital pays ok and the Biltmore, but that is about all. Maybe the Grove park Inn. As for house cost, unless you want a fixer upper or 1200 sqft (or small) and depending on the area may not work. I have been and am still looking for a home or land and it's not easy. My boyfriend works at both the hosptial and the Biltmore and and makes about $48,000 a year.
Schools in South Asheville are the best (for this area), my kids have been to North and West Asheville schools as well as south. I can say that they had to "catch up" when we moved to south Asheville. I have one kid who went to school in Clyde and Marion as well and did not care for either.
I would not go to either Haywood hospital or Marion. Mission is the best around here. Don't know much about the hunting or police/fire department.
As for places to eat, you can find some really nice places, the best thing to me in Asheville is the breweries. Juicy Lucy's has some great burgers. I like how a lot of restaurants put a twist on their dishes.
I think the best thing to do is come here and check the areas out several time before moving.
