Hello ,

I am planning to take a close friend out to lunch and possibly dinner Saturday , and was wondering whether anyone knew of any good eateries within the triangle created by Bryson City , Robbinsville , and Franklin. Aside from FVR , and Fryemont. We are planning a sightseeing outing , as I haven't seen her in several years. I would like to initiate a budgetary cap of 50 to 60 max for food , including 24 for the three orders of hot wings I plan on getting from FVR. We will also likely travel the Cherohala Skyway , as well as through parts of GSMNP. Thanks in advance!!

There's not much in that triangle. There are a couple of casual places at the Nantahala Outdoor Center.

I know. There really doesn't appear to be much else besides the aforementioned , fast food , and 2 other resort style places in the first 2 places I mentioned. FVR has good food , the service is good , however the expenditure for food alone would likely breach 100 , including the wings. Stopping in Asheville would be pointless , as we are departing around 8:30 or 9 , and will not arrive in the area until 11:30 or 12:30 , depending on traffic. Usually , when I head out there , I leave at 2:00 in the morning , and the trips pretty much revolve around fishing. I have yet to ask , but based upon current and past knowledge , she would likely disapprove. Thanks for the tip.

I can't speak from recent personal experience, but if Trip Advisor is to be believed, it looks like several decent possibilities in Bryson City:

We've made several visits over the years to the Bryson City area, and the restaurant at the Nantahala Outdoor Center is worth dining at if for no other reason than the beautiful views of the river and gorge.

On that TripAdvisor list, we've also been to the Everett Street Diner and Jimmy Mac's in downtown Bryson City. Neither one is a gourmet experience, but both had better-than-average food at reasonably prices when we visited.

I work with a guy at Mission in Asheville that lives in Franklin. He swears by 'Cafe Rel', Fat Buddies, and possibly Bowery for drinks. I think Cafe Rel is some French Chef who rented out space in a gas station (being serious) but makes amazing food.

Also, I've eaten at Cork and Bean in Bryson City and it is very good. Small menu stuff that changes frequently and tastes really good.

Thanks for the assistance. I had to convince her that the 3 plus hour drive was worth it , and am trying to ascertain that we enjoy ourselves. Has anyone ever eaten at FVR , and if so , tried their buffalo wings? People send after them whenever I go , I have 2 orders for myself , and one for a coworker. Given how hot they are , 18 will last about 2 weeks.

Just curious - I live in a totally different area of WNC, so pardon my ignorance - what is FVR?

Fontana Village Resort:

Fontana Village Resort :: Smokey Mountain Resort & Marina

It is pretty esoteric to refer to it by it's initials.
