Enka Center is a proposed retail and recreation center on the former 375-acre American Enka Corporation/BASF Enka mill site near the southeast corner of Smoky Park Highway and Sand Hill Road in the Enka community in Buncombe County, North Carolina. Sixty acres are planned for retail. Ninety-two acres may be used for baseball and softball fields.

I do not know what specific retail would be targeted for Enka Center.

Has anyone heard of a supermarket (Publix) or a hypermarket (Walmart Supercenter) possibly locating at Enka Center?

I am hearing a hypermarket, Walmart Supercenter, will be the anchor of Enka Center's retail component.

I can't believe they are going to build a facility where kids will play on top of contaminated land. Unreal! Oh but it's safe because they say so right? Sure... $

I kind of figured a Walmart would come to that side of town sooner or later. Not everyone likes them but there are people that do I wonder what the anticipated completion time will be?

Do you have some evidence that the plan is unsafe?
