All the seasons really seem to come a month later theses days.

I'm in North Georgia, with the North Carolina state line being only a mile away. This spring has been very strange.

I saw the first Dogwood blooms in late March, which is unheard of. They are blooming right along with earlier-blooming trees, shrubs, and flowers (Daffodils, Tulips, Forsythia, Cherry, Redbud), so everything is blooming all at the same time!

Usually, our Dogwoods bloom somewhere in the middle to the third week of April. By that time, all the leaves have opened up everywhere, so the mountains are fully green up to the top. The mountains are only partially green, but mostly not. The Dogwoods are out of order!

Default Mother Nature

Keeps her options open, and can change her mind. I'm wondering how the severe natural pruning of the trees, caused by the strong winds, will impact the landscape. Last year the Dogwoods were especially beautiful; the fall was spectacular; and the acorns were record in their abundance. It will be interesting to see what flora shines this year.

Every time I say something about the weather here, someone says "Dogwood Winter!"
I had never heard of this, growing up in the Piedmont. Not to mention all the other "Winters", Blackberry, Redbud, Linsey-Woolsey Britches (!).
It does make me appreciate the warm weather, and I try not to complain when it's super hot outside. But I am really anxious for spring. Right now in Franklin it's 33 degrees.

Average date of the last freeze in Asheville is April 10. Nothing unusual about it.

Yeah, really.

Building nearby put in a big planting of gorgeous Violas (the big pansy) and they froze by day 2. They are usually pretty resistant to cold.

Garden center guy said frost can cause stress for newly transplanted plants.
