^ We were up in North Jersey a couple weekends ago, and got into The City for an afternoon/night...
Jeez, we miss it, though it is packed with tourists/'us' and since the lavish, no questions asked Exp Acct is 17+ yrs behind me, some of the stuff was breathtakingly pricey, I really don't care.

You have stuff figured out in terms of 'going back to see peeps', in terms of time vs greif/NY Minute worries, here!

And, you will come to love it 'here', imo.

Anyone use the Greenville/Spartanburg airport? I travel quite a bit for work to Chicago into O'Hare and while I love the direct flight United as out of Asheville, my company does not love the cost. (It is insane, one trip would be almost 1k)

American has a direct flight out of Greenville to O'Hare for well under $400, and the 40 mile drive isn't horrid. Is it the typical smaller airport that most are used to? Any pointers or suggestions?

No expert on GSP, though we have used it a few times...pretty accommodating airport from memory...'larger' than AVL, but modern, decent parking/access, etc.

Give it a try; just allow a few more minutes for the first time run and the usual traffic on 26 & 85, dependent on time of day. Parking was easy and a short pull your bag to the terminal.

I prefer GSP over CLT for the reasons Motordavid gave. Since we live right by the Asheville airport, we prefer to fly out of there for direct flights, but we don't mind the drive to GSP if it will save a huge chunk of change.

GSP is a good choice for Hendersonville-ites ... not so much from Waynesville-ites. There is a 'back way' which you can pick up from taking I26 to Rt. 25 So., a few more intersections, and then brings you right into the back of the airport and avoids the 26/85 hike and especially the madness on 85. A good 45/50 min.+ easy drive from downtown Hendersonville, and valet parking well worth it.

We've had family and guests use GSP several times -and most of them fly out of O'Hare. Never had any issues there but we also never take 26 to get there. We take 25 instead and usually take 11 to skirt around some of the slower spots on 290, however there was construction the last time (probably early last spring) so it didn't save anything time wise. Either way it's an easy drive from where we are.

We use GSP most of the the time. It's another airport that's easy in and easy out. It's a small airport.
