I wonder if supermarket Publix could be on its way to Franklin. Ingle's is active rebuilding, expanding, or replacing stores in trade areas where Publix has opened stores or has announced new store locations. Examples include Hendersonville, Statesville, and Waynesville.
I can't answer your question but no Aldi or Lidl either. We were just talking about the lack of grocery stores in Franklin. My friends ended up buying a house in Franklin and they were saying the groceries are expensive and they don't have much choice. They end up shopping at Walmart. They also mentioned there are 3 Ingles which is ridiculous.
Macon County does not have any limited assortment/discount grocers. That could change if Ingle's brings its Sav-Mor banner to Franklin. The former Ingle's #114 at Westgate Plaza, 265 Westgate Road, Franklin, North Carolina 28734-1317, is speculated to reopen as Sav-Mor.
I wonder how much longer supermarket BI-LO #5011, Macon Plaza, 245 Macon Plaza Drive, Franklin, North Carolina 28734-1708, may remain open. BI-LO #5011 opened in 2001 and replaced an older store in Macon Plaza. Many BI-LO stores in North Carolina have closed.
The new Super Ingles on 441 might be BI-LO's death knell. Shopped there yesterday (grand opening was Wednesday) and it has BI-LO beat every which way to Sunday. It also presents a viable argument that Publix really isn't needed here.
I agree the new Ingle's #114, 1257 Georgia Road, Franklin, North Carolina 28734-9275, could end BI-LO #5011's run. Many BI-LO stores in North Carolina and South Carolina within distance of Ingle's stores have closed or are in the process of closing. If BI-LO #5011 is on a twenty-year lease, and the lease is not being renewed, it could close by 2021.
I have heard speculation Publix has sought or is seeking sites in Franklin for a store location. Unlike BI-LO, Food Lion, and Winn-Dixie, Publix is focusing in on and opening stores across western North Carolina.
This is a list of grocery retailers in varying grocery retail segments, their store count, and where they have stores presently in Macon County, North Carolina, through Sunday, 6 May 2018:
