WE CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!

We CLOSED today (Friday, I mean) in San Diego. After 15 months in the Market from Hell and three months of EVIL escrow (even with pre-qualified buyers), we have finally SOLD our house in San Diego. Bill and I pause again for a moment of prayerful thanks. (Please direct-message if interested in details.)

Imagine our stress even at the end of this nightmare: We recorded today (Friday) just barely by the 5:00 PM close of the San Diego Recorder's Office. Funds can not be wired anywhere after 2:00 PM, so can't be wired to Asheville until Monday morning. Given the three-hour time difference, the earliest we can expect funds to be wired here, Asheville time, is noon on Monday. We are scheduled to close here on our house in Asheville on Monday at 3:30 PM! Talk about "tight"!!!

That same day--Monday--movers will pack us out of our rental house in Hendersonville. The very next day--Tuesday--they will move us in to our new purchased house in Asheville (in Eastmoor-by-the-River--thanks again, Cooper!)--barely in time to register to vote in our new district. (It's hard to say which is more important to us, voting for the next Democratic presidential candidate or voting for the next governor of our new State!--so moving in time to register in our new district was really important to us--!!)

This whole experience finally became an increasingly real threat to our health, yet just a way of life for us(!) these past three months. You wouldn't even believe the crises, the problems, the disappointments, the anger, the frustration, the feeling that this might never end... that in fact we might never sell.... It became an all-consuming full-time job with no remuneration and no benefits, and the possibility, always, that we could end up right back where we started--or worse--some 15 awful months ago.

As recently as yesterday, we had no promised or guaranteed date for close of escrow. It was always "hopefully" and "we'll do our best."

And suddenly--WOOHOO!-- we're out of the real estate business and can live a normal life again!! We are SO looking forward to it!!

By the way, we are not "celebrating." We are way too tired for that. At this point it all seems anti-climactic, anyway, since we "thought" we were closing so many times before. We didn't even go out for dinner this evening. But that doesn't mean we're not feeling wonderfully RELIEVED. P.S. Our buyers and realtor in San Diego are definitely "celebrating," and we're very happy for them!!!

I'm providing this description of our experience in the hope that it may be meaningful and somehow helpful to those of you who are trying to sell in this almost impossible market. We wish for you far less in time and trauma than it has been for us. Our only advice is that you discipline yourself--a "must do"--to have lots of PATIENCE, whether or not that's your strong suit. Oh... and check out lenders very carefully. We thought our buyers were dealing with two of the best (in succession), and maybe they were--but we hope not!!

THANK YOU for all of your support along this painful path. We may never have met you in person, but we have definitely felt your touch.

God bless you!!

Jan and Bill

Default Buncombe County Residents

A NC resident who is qualified to vote but who misses the 25-day deadline for voter registration may register and vote at a One-Stop Site during the One-Stop Absentee Voting period.

Beginning April 17, a voter can vote in person at any of our One-Stop Voting locations. All sites will be open Monday through Saturday - April 17 through May 3, 2008. On Saturday, May 3, all sites will be open from 8:30am - 1pm.

The new registrant may vote ONLY at a One-Stop Absentee Voting Site in the county of registration during One-Stop Absentee Voting period and not on Election Day.

Acceptable forms of identification include:

A North Carolina driver’s license with current address
A utility bill with name and current address
A telephone or mobile phone bill
An electric or gas bill
A cable television bill
A water or sewage bill
A document with name and current address from a local, state, or U.S. government agency, such as:
A passport
A government-issued photo ID
U.S. military ID
A license to hunt, fish, own a gun, etc.
A property or other tax bill
Automotive or vehicle registration
Certified documentation of naturalization
A public housing or Social Service Agency document
A check, invoice, or letter from a government agency
A birth certificate
A student photo ID along with a document from the school showing the student’s name and current address
A paycheck or paycheck stub from an employer or a W-2 statement
A bank statement or bank-issued credit card statement
If you cannot supply an acceptable form of identification for Proof-of-Residence, your registration application cannot be fully processed until the required information is provided.

Registered voters may also update their address and change vital information in an existing registration record at the One-Stop Site, but they are not allowed to change their party affiliation during the One-Stop Voting period that precedes a partisan primary.

Thanks so much, mm34b! Somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew that--just read it yesterday in the newspaper, in fact--but have felt an emotional need (born of habit) to be registered NOW in the district we will vote in.

Wait. I think I'm not clear. (Our posts are crossing, mm34b.)

If we're registered Republicans in CA now, are you saying that we can't vote as Independents in NC in the upcoming elections? Or am I just confused?

Jan

Are you planning to register in NC as a Republican, Democrat or Unaffiliated?

Um... that's a good question for tomorrow, I think, mm34b. We've always been registered Republicans, but this isn't a Republican primary, and we vote our minds regardless of political labels.

AND... We're still trying to absorb the reality that we sold our house in San Diego today... so need all the help we can get! Thanks for yours!
