Hello, I am a new retiree and I am looking for a new place to live (right now I live on Long Island. I would like warmish winters, mountains and a great outdoor life , a nice small city with great shopping and a community that will afford me something to do (otherwise I would hibernate for the whole year). Are there any small cities like that in western NC ? Do they have over 55 communities there?

What do you consider a warmish winter? The climate of Asheville is essentially the same as N. Virginia just outside Washington DC--Larry

That is sort of warmish, I think. I really don't know about that climate. I guess I mean no days of endless single digit temps and not too much snowfall (quick melting snow is okay) and a long fall and spring (my favorite seasons).

Hi, I don't know of any specific retirement communities but, Brevard, NC is really lovely. I would check maybe with their Visitor center.
