Opinions on other cities or towns near the smoky mountains? I am not saying Asheville is my end all choice, but what are some other places that have a similar climate nearby?

Default Culture shock!

Yes there are no jobs in Asheville I know I just moved after living there for eight years. Culture shock is what you will get because visiting Asheville and living there is very different. It is very nice to visit and the only way you will enjoy living there is if you like liberals, freaks, bums and homosexuals. Asheville is known as freak in Asheville and it is a hot spot for gays and lesbians as they call it little SF. If you are ok with all this you might love it! There are many other nice places to move with outdoor recreation.

Hmm, I think I am in the twilight zone here. This is the second post on this site in three days that has me confused. My wife and I are not liberals, freaks, bums or homosexuals (unless there is something going on around here when I am away that I don't know about). Yet somehow, we like it here very much.

Oh, I know.

It's not that we like liberals, freaks, bums and homosexuals, we largely just do not care what other people do. We sort of live by what the long-time, old-style conservative journalist Charley Reese once wrote:

"if you don't approve of gay marriage, then don't marry a gay person; if you disapprove of abortion, don't get one; if you dislike drugs and tobacco, don't use them; if you are opposed to war, don't participate in it; if you are against gambling, don't bet."

So you don't have to like all those things to enjoy life here, you just have value the other things the area has to offer, be content to let others live their own lives and take a deep breath when you come into contact with lifestyles unlike your own.

Exactly! Why do people ever think that visiting somewhere in any way relates to living there. I enjoy visiting many places, from beaches to big cities, but I am also grounded enough to know that living there would be totally different. Many places I will plan visits to are also places that I would never consider living in.

Up "here" or up there? Your message suggests that you are already in Asheville!
