Hi everyone. My family and I moved to Charlotte (actually Matthews) three years ago. I have a 10 year old grandson who loves nature and the outdoors. We've taken several daytrips in the three years....Linville Caverns and Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, Chimney Rock, Crowder's Mountain State Park, Morrow Mountain State Park and Pisgah National Forest. We're just in the beginning stages of planning a "leaf peeper" day-trip in the fall and I'd love suggestions on places to go in or near the mountains and scenic by-ways. Thanks!
Roan Mountain State Park just over the NC stateline in Tennesee is a beautiful area. And if you are into camping- a wonderful campground. www.tennessee.gov/environment/parks/RoanMtn/
Also a trip to Mt Mitchell is always a treat. Some scenic hiking trails.
