I think 6 is very realistic if you are willing to work a lower paying job. It really depends on your experience, skills, and what you want.

I guess after all the feed back to my question the next question goes to MrX.
MrX, do you have the personality and willingness to wait tables? Work nights, week-ends?

I think I have the personality but not the willingness. It's just not something I could ever see myself comfortable doing.
Thank you all for the feedback. Unfortunately, the more I look at the job market and what kind of jobs are available around Asheville, the more likely it seems that I'll have to look more closely at cities like Raleigh or Charlotte to move to. There just doesn't seem to be much of anything.

MrXpress,
I have to agree with everyone else, there really is a job shortage in Charlotte, and from a crime standpoint? It's only getting worse here. If I had my way, I would have moved my wife and kids to Saluda years ago, just to get away from here, and I'm speaking from the standpoint of someone whose been a resident of Charlotte for 40+ years. It's just not the same great place it used to be.
If you can find a job and a place to live in Asheville (Or somewhere close to there)? Go for it man. The only thing I've ever heard anyone say negative about Asheville, is that there are too many hippies there, and this guy was a really uptight fundamentalist.
