Just curious what the most popular option is around here. Walmart has opened up a lot of neighborhood markets in Wichita within the last few months. Is this beause Dillons is too expensive? I am also excited to see a new health food store going in where the old borders was on rock road, Natural Grocers. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the prices are reasonable.

Is Dillon's at all upscale? It's been a long time since I've been to a Dillon's, but there was one in Independence, KS, when I lived there.

Does Wichita have an upscale grocery store chain? In Kansas City, we have Hen House and Cosentino's. Upscale as in a great selection of higher-end and local products, a good deli with real sliced meat (vs only a processed selection), butcher's block with fresh meat on ice, good seafood selection, good cheese selection, good selection of prepared foods, etc.

The Dillons market place's are pretty nice, but I don't know if they are upscale. They are nicer than Walmart and Target. Some of the older Dillons don't have near the variety. It's the nicest option unless you won't to go to a butcher or specialty food shop.

I have always thought that Dillons was pretty expensive. My boss said he has went to Wichita a few times lately and visited the new neighborhood markets and he said they are a very nice place with much better customer service than Walmart itself. Personally wherever I am, I usually just do my shopping at Walmart seeings how I believe it's the least expensive. I would assume that all the major coupon users the small grocery store chains because most of them double coupons.

Dillons is pretty good. Prices on some things are crazy.

Example: 6pk of 12 oz V8 Cans at Dillons = $5.35; At walmart = $3.85.

So what we do is just buy some things at Walmart (I pass by one on my way home from work so that's easy to do).

But a lot of things are pretty much on-par with Walmart. My wife clips coupons and keeps up with weekly sales so sometimes we even come out ahead of what we would have spent at Walmart.

I shop primarily at Dillons.....but I also pretty much only get produce (when it's not Farmer's Market season) and a few other things there. I go to Green Acres, Whole Food and Food 4 Thought alot too though.
I get all of my meat and dairy stuff from local farmers!

I don't go to walmart as the selection of organic and natural products is pretty limited (in the ones I've been to anyway!). For what I do get, I have found Target to actually be more expensive that Dillons.

Oh, and I do get "bulk" items (like TP, kleenex, etc) at Sam's club.

What local farmers do you get your meat from? I tried yoder. It was ok, but didn't know if something better was out there.

I get meat either from Jako, Inc (farm near Hutch) or from Faye farms (near Rose Hill or Udall).
Jako: beef, dairy, chicken; Faye farms: dairy, pork

Both are organic farmers and animals are grass fed (rather than just grain fed).

My hubby won't shop at any place except Walmart. Lower prices. I would shop Dillons but when we do my hubby points out how much higher they are on things than Walmart. Plus he says the produce and milk does not go bad as fast at Walmart.

WE DO only buy meat at Dillons though. Seems the meat at Walmart is not as good or fresh.

Dillons did not do special orders or had very good customer service but I noticed they improved when a Walmart moved across from them out West. We went into Dilllons at night and hardly anybody was there, they were all going across the street. I'm not sure if it is the same now since we moved East but having both on the same street sure helps with the customer service, etc.
