I'm also from Austin, now living in San Antonio. I'm sorry (and kind of surprised) to hear of your experiences there. East Texas, sure, but I didn't think overt racism was that common in Austin.

From my experience I have heard the opposite. People who grew up in Kansas, moved to Austin and try to convince their friends (and relatives) in mixed marriages to move to Austin. If you really want to trade Austin for kansas, (sigh) I would suggest somewhere closer to the Kansas City Topeka area. But I can understand Wichita being that it is in the middle of a corridor of correctional institutions.

Job market is terrible and lots of the blacks who managed to remain employed in the middle class work were destroyed since 2008, some put back into the hood and some even turning to drug dealing even if college educated. People are doing anything needed to get by, no matter how unethical just expect it even in professional work. Is normal to screw new church contacts too in order to see how far they can use you. Some churches are trapping new members with lots of threats and theft from checking so only join if you already know and trust some of the members as you may not be able to leave okay and you may NEED to be a member in order to remain employed in Wichita. May see so many very demented and marginalized black people acting like a nut, is quite upsetting and caused harm to some blacks shopping in Wichita so started to avoid even shopping much of Wichita. I don't have anything left to spend as area has been hard on middle aged college educated women and quite a hard business situation screwing some females repeatedly at different places and unemployment denied. So many looney predators at work and relationships, happy to see some normals as the protestant church thing started to collect lots of newly psychotic people and tell them they have to do anything demanded in order to be okay so is almost nut farm environment with all kinds of bad stuff and kookey crap happening to motivate compliance. White church leader moved here claiming to own the black folks and cops and place just went to hell btw.....Wouldn't speak up, just tip toe out of here. Try to socialize and could be attacked by new GAWD demanding favors, even if it will leave you unemployed. Business networking will ruin and these new ones are ruining established contacts to put in their own church members at good jobs...

Your friends may have something arranged to be working 'in network' with one of the borderline ethical big church arrangements so their lives are still okay. But if you are alone for a while, this place may get you fired to land you as a relationship with a nut and unemployment is usually denied. Cops are complete predators so no need to talk to even suburban cops about anything unless you need a police report to give insurance company if everything was stolen. Cops WILL ruin you and cannot admit you get disability pay unless you are in a wheelchair as is special mission of current Kansas governor to ruin anyone who tried to remain in Kansas after being scammed by the mental care (sex abuse victims usually, ex-wives of wealthy or unwilling mistress.) Need to say you work at Walmart if ever interrogated by cops about your source of income so can be THROWN out of new home purchases even by suburban cops (Park City). Some GET STUCK in Wichita for trying to move here. You may have to move where you know some people in order to move away from Wichita alone as you will be ruined everywhere else you try OVER AND OVER UNLESS YOU MOVE 2-3 STATES AWAY, probably even worse for black as these towns will ruin whites too.

School situation would be very okay in ANY of the suburbs except Park City or Bel Aire, which feed to Heights High school in Wichita with 1/3 of kids from the hood and nothing done about the drugs/gangster thing. Way too much trouble can be found in city high schools and is troubled area for the boys many of whom will not bother holding down work and just fall into the drugs all the way to crack use. Colleges are terrible situation. Can only speak highly of Ft. Hays State online program and K-State at Manhattan. K-U & Emporia have been in trouble recently for discrimination against older female (mentally abused students) and anyone else who got into mental care by mistake. Butler College is out of control rip off and causes of lots of suffering for kids in the community due to the discrimination...Is completely unhealthy and would not even work there for the pidley $9.50 an hour for skilled workers to take the kind of employment hell of sex harassment this school was dishing.

Goddard, Maize, Andover, Derby, Sedgwick, Rose Hill or Augusta high schools are first choices. Valley Center has too high a mental illness rate amongst the high schoolers and would just avoid it. Newton, Hutchinson and Wellington are very troubled communities. Winfield and El Dorado run better and nicer spot accepting more minorities. Nerdy mixed race daughter should not be a problem, can have a lot of potential as long as she stays away from the parasite/predator boys and uses higher education selectively. This area screws college kids bad sometimes....

Lots of the skilled labor jobs are paying $8-9 for skilled full-time office. Coleman furnaces pays $8.00 to assemble furnaces, but the work release guys think it's good money and is temporary work too. If you have contacts to get hired on at aircraft plants, may or may not be good ... Your man will let you know how he is treated, better to keep his mouth shut about the **** for a while and just take it -- see what he gets. Some blacks got ruined at the plants, even with student loans they mortgaged themselves to work, and still went crazy at aircraft plants. Is lots of craziness coming from plants, especially if female and go to work their alone -- will be ruined if you stay alone very long unless Masters degree in Engineering as these are only ladies left alone there. Lots of others wear out knees and hips young crawling around on in airplanes all day and end up on disability...Must have contacts to work at aircraft, never hires any support jobs is completely nepotism driven employer. Can see some employees training new people incorrectly on machine so person gets hurt so beware if told to put any part of your body in the machines as the employer tries to get out of paying for medical on amputations and this can happen to employee's kids at the aircraft plants -- really dirty secret and this is outcome for normals who got their kids hired at aircraft plant.

Do yourself a favor and don't discuss this with your friends, just inquire here and there....Can see what you think of rest. Actually, a poker faced silence was only way to get through most of the TESTS okay as you may be harmed for speaking up or saying something is just wrong. Better to have no response to anything off and just excuse yourself when you can -- anyone male who is loudly critical of you will ********* later. Is just local personality type so excuse yourself quietly and avoid person for good...no way to do any business with these if treated to these.

The groups using Wichita and 'favors influencing what is wrong in Wichita' are constantly changing so no two people would have the same answers as so many predators are hunting Wichita for slaves of any color/type. Is VERY hard situation and city that is becoming a trap as just too small to support businesses any longer, just sniveling schemers looking for their next rise.

Can tell you KC is segregated as it was run through big crazy-creator before Wichita and blacks relegated to fast food/retail and left to suffer crazy in silence. Blacks who left in military were first to be put on front lines and killed. I lived there for short period and found very planned and orderly community with lots of work for someone with education/experience but pretty tough situation for black. Black may never will be able to pay bills and many just accept drug dealing. Not sure if area really hires blacks for manufacturing even as is so pre-planned, wanted to check this out but never got opportunity. Also system plans harm to some who move to KC even for work (as I met wrong sex abusing wealthy man who just screws with people FT) so if threatened DO take it seriously and move quickly if gang stalked. You will know you are in wrong place if threatened a few times and area will not accept you probably, happens more often if moving to KC from Wichita. Families can come home to find a stranger in their place and if you ask if he has a message for you, you will live but some single moms with little kids did not make it a week in KC as she had met wrong people in past. People who yell died, keep calm and just ask if there is a message and leave by morning. Wichita does not have such a well planned and predictable system yet and basically nothing even runs okay to support anyone any longer except for the few aircraft plant people but the area around Wichita was not as violent as KC. However with the wrong influences that moved to Wichita to ruin things situation is getting much more violent with the desperation of the poor folks. Wichita is not a good business investment at all unless you are told to buy out a business that got screwed.

Wish I had better news for you except some of the middle aged college educated females were happy they could work online when they wanted to get some stable work after staying in Wichita for 15 years and losing it all. Not even able to move away alone unless you moved in with relatives/roommates elsewhere. Cops did bust people and run out people who bought homes here. Court is just used to bust people worse.....

There is another post with list of other troubled places in Kansas. May be tempting to move to Junction City or Independence KS due to high minority population but both are just ruined promises and lots of drug addicted unemployable people with no job options locally....Pick somewhere else as really is trouble for the younger females who move to community and not the outcome you want for a brainy daughter. Only suburban KC schools were okay rest flunked and barely operating to turn out McDonalds capable people -- Johnson County or Lees Summit, MO were only options for college worthy. Kids who went into city schools in KC may be barred from using the colleges even if capable situation is so terrible & pre-planned...
