I have recently re-located and am looking for some advice on rental homes/townhomes/apartments in Wichita.

I feel like I've looked all over town and there are pretty limited options for my situation -- need a place that is a decent size (2 br+, 1400 sq. ft+), but cost is a concern since I have a large mortgage on a home I'm selling in Illinois. I also have a medium/large dog (mixed lab - 40 lbs.) and need to sign a lease and get in within the next three weeks.

I have looked at a townhome/apartment community called Parke East which offers some pretty large townhomes (1700 sq. feet, three levels) for a decent price, but have been told by at least two locals to steer clear of that area of town (they are at 1000 S. Woodlawn just north of Boston Park at Zimmerly).

Any specific thoughts on that area, or suggestions on other places to check out in the next few days??

Thanks, in advance!!

My best advice would be to check with the Wichita Police Department. They will be happy to answer your questions about crime rates or any specific concerns you may have. While no one can gaurantee your safety, no matter where you are...I have several friends who live around that area and really enjoy it. Another good source to check for crime activity...is the "Neighbor's Section" in The Wichita Eagle newspaper. I believe that section comes out on Thursdays? It lists all the "beats" in Wichita and the activity that took place the previous week. Hopefully, this information helps you with your search!

Have you looked into the Riverside area? I know from personal experience that that area has houses, townhomes and condos for rent.
