Na you're alright. You're an anomaly in that if needed, you could defend yourself rather well if need be. Most of us would just be a victim. On the other hand if a gun is involved you too would be subject to losing your life. Not a good thing. I pray you'll walk down there with the protection of the Most High watching over you. You need it.

dcisive, thank you! I always enjoy our discussions, and your stories taking me down your memory lane!!!

I appreciate you as a native Chicagoan who has love for my Wisconsin, the same way I am a native Milwaukeean who has love for your Illinois!

So far God has certainly had my back when I have intervened on the streets to stop violence on the streets of Milwaukee and Chicago. And I accept that when God DOES want me, and it is my time, it will be my time to go! I only hope it happens while I'm trying to help someone, so I can leave with honor.

How often can you see the dinosaurs at the Field Museum before you have it memorized? (Other than the dinosaurs, the rest of the building is a ghost town except when the grammar school kids on their field trips race thru without bothering to look at anything.) Literature, of course, is an individual activity and now with internet availability, you can get your culture anywhere you can use your computer or iPhone.

...If by "culture," you're referring to night spots with live bands, then be intellectually honest and admit you're not looking for culture, but for night life and dating opportunity....

Other intellectually stimulating activities available anywhere in WI is Public TV's daily offering of the UW's lecture series "University Place," an eclectic offering of subjects from science to art to history & lit. https://pbswisconsin.org/watch/university-place/....

...and need we mention the several art colonies and theater groups, archeological sites and nature centers & reserves we have in WI, not often available elsewhere?

Living in small town WI, one can have easy access to more cultural offerings than large cities without risking one's life or paying a week's wages for parking....but here there's no virtue signaling or chance to be seen with the In Crowd.
Back when I was a kid growing up in Chicago, we went to the museums all the time. They were free so we would take the bus or el and go. Same with Cubs games-our parents would give us a few bucks and if it was a double header even better. Or we would go on Ladies Day.
We also liked to go to plays. You could get great bargains to see them. Of course this was back in the late 60s and early 70s. Chicago was a great place to grow up.
Hubby and I moved to central Wisconsin in 1987.
I have a Chicago trip scheduled in a few weeks to meet up with some of my high school girl friends for lunch.

ManApplet, it's a joke.

But that IS a place we both actually do know of.

And if you ever make your way to the north side of Chicago, check it out! Very cool ice cream/candy store.

Yes, it is a joke. If I wasn't driving down with a friend I would meet up with you. Lol.

EllieKay56, you're a good lady!

I stopped at Indian Boundary Park today. The turtles are still swimming!!! And that beautiful wooden castle playground, I hear, they are talking about demolishing.

P.S. If you are coming down next weekend, I believe it is Apple Fest in Lincoln Square!

Ellie Kay56, I'm sure there will be PLENTY to still do on the weekend of the 8th!

Fore some reason, I believe I have the Fall/Halloween Fest on my calendar for that weekend, up in Highwood.

I may make it down to Chicago that weekd, if I find out if there are any good Oktoberfests or Fall fests going on!
