$250?! Are you kidding me?! I would LOVE to get $250 from my employer at any time. I don't even get an Xmas bonus.

I remember when I left an employer after 9 years and 11 months of service, they refused to give me my 10-year gift. I was annoyed but I kinda saw their point - I just really really wanted those darn binoculars .

My company began giving $25 Walmart cards for Christmas several years ago. When my wife tried to use it at our local Walmart, the balance was $0.00 and she was quite embarrassed at check out.

The company also awarded me a $250.00 card for a Safety Award about 5 years ago.

I used the card for a computer hard drive at their recommended website. The transaction got processed and they sent the over priced drive to me. Two months later I got a letter demanding payment for the drive due to the card being invalid and had a $0.00 balance. I told them to take it up with the card issuer. After a few more months of phone fights, I was turned over to a collection agency - and I ended up paying the balance and had to fight to keep my credit score from taking a hit.

And to make matters worse, the drive failed and I found out the standard factory warranty didn't apply since it was a 'white box' hard drive.

Needless to say, I send all such cards back to my company's headquarters.

Read the fine print. It's ALWAYS in their favor.

I got a pin with the number ten on it for ten years of service. For thirty ye ars of service I got a clock. I would have loved a $250.00 gift certificate.
Do you want to trade it for my clock?

YES, all you owed is your agreed to salary and benefits...anything else is gravy...

That is awful! What's the point of giving out cards with zero balances on them? If they are that cheap, they could just give you a certificate or something!
