I personally find firing someone on a Monday at 9am, and having them escorted out of the building at the time when other employees are arriving in the office is brutality at its best.

Any time is a GREAT! time to fire someone

Just kidding. Assuming that it's a good employee who's simply not a good fit or due to a work shortage, Friday afternoon a few hours before quitting time. A short day, a weekend and a severance check in hand makes for a not-so-bad departure.

Exactly. I have heard of Thursdays and Fridays too, or at least towards the end of the day. Monday AM is just ridiculous, regardless of the reasons why they are fired.

I checked with the experts. It appears Friday is best.

Peter Gibbons: You're gonna lay off Samir and Michael?
Bob Slydell: Oh yeah, we're gonna bring in some entry-level graduates, farm some work out to Singapore, that's the usual deal.
Bob Porter: Standard operating procedure.
Peter Gibbons: Do they know this yet?
Bob Slydell: No. No, of course not. We find it's always better to fire people on a Friday. Studies have statistically shown that there's less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week

I've always been let go on Fridays @ 4:59 (never been fired though) after I've finished all of my work for the day.

Is there a real difference between the two? I've always thought "let go" is just more diplomatic than the other, that's all.
