It depends if your a independent contractor or contractor working for government directly. More and more local government hire the top after being a independent contract worker because its cheaper to train that way and easy to get rid of those not meeting requirements.
You don't have to do combat tours to become a Fed. But thanks for the rude advice jsemkral. Appreciate it.
Convex, I actually asked that over four YEARS ago (not sure why the person above you felt the need to go back four years to respond), but I do thank you for the response.
sounds like you want the fed benefits and the contractor pay. you cant have both. if you want to be a fed, do what I did; spend 20+ years in the army with 4 combat tours. if you arent willing to do that then pipe down
Well, thanks for your sacrifice, 4 tours dang. Glad to see Fed jobs go to folks like you. But, I've also seen dozens of 'other' vets get Fed jobs. Vets who served one term stateside and are compensible for sleep apnea. Vets preference doesn't distinquish between real sacrifice like yours and schmucks who never sacrificed more than a paper cut (and who often collect college degrees back home while you risk life and limb abroad).
There is supposed to be an "arm's length" distance between Fed employees and contract employees. When things get too cozy, trouble results.
