I think I'm a Type-B person but I also want to climb the corporate ladder. Are the two incompatible?

Probably. They want people who can lie with ease and smile as they kill.

Putting yourself in a box because someone or something labeled your as Type B is silly. You can climb the corporate ladder just like anyone else. You may lead and direct differently than a Type A but you can still be just as effective.

Guess I would fit somewhere as an A/B personality and if you pick your positions carefully there is no reason why you can't climb the corporate ladder. What I found out was that I was never going to be the guy in charge, but I am a great number two guy.

In my experience, I found that the Type A personalities that are in charge tend to be risk takers, impulsive and don't think things out. Found my value in being the guy next to them pulling them back, thinking things through for them and running interference for them with the employees underneath us. Type A's would run through the office coming up with new plans, getting everyone stirred up and I would go in the next day to calm people down and explain what the boss really wants.

Every successful leader in a company usually has a number two person beside them to assist. You may not get all of the glory and recognition, but it's still a good spot to be.

Excellent work product, creativity, strong people skills, smart (and crafty at times), solid work ethic, courage, ability to manage conflict and confront bullies, flexibility, commitment to continuous improvement and learning....

gee, ...... also in the corporate world it helps a lot if you maintain a good image by dressing nicely, managing your weight and taking care of your teeth... also have some outside interests besides just work.

Heck, does it take a type A person to do all that???!!!

They like narcissists with high IQ and low common sense; not type B personalities.

Can you kiss butt and be a brown-noser? If yes, then you can climb the corporate ladder.

Can you pretend to be someone else for eight hours a day? That's the only way.
