One of the executives of my company is also on a PAC committee. He sent out an e-mail to the entire organization today soliciting donations to his PAC and even included a chart with suggested contribution amounts by employee level.
The email stated "Contributions to [redacted] PAC are entirely voluntary" and stated we could decline to contribute "without fear of reprisal."
They can solicit, but they cannot force you to donate or make it mandatory.
Corporate-affiliated PACs may only solicit contributions from executives, shareholders, and their families, while union-affiliated PACs may only solicit contributions from members. "Independent" PACs not affiliated with a corporation, union, or trade or membership association may solicit contributions from the general public but must pay their operating costs from these regulated contributions.
