I interviewed with this one doctor a little over a month ago. He really liked me, but also had no reservations about belittling my nurse's office experience. As much as I didn't appreciate that, I didn't let it get to me. I put everything I had into it and felt pretty good about it until I had to leave.

Before I exited the interview, he mentioned interviewing other people who had recently come into his office inquiring as to whether he had an opening. He also mentioned the 'f' word (friends). So I left taking all that as a bad sign I wouldn't be hired.

And I was right. Even though he was supposed to call me back 2 days later to tell me either way, I ended up receiving a call the very next day only to inform me he went with another gal. He told me she had the exact same experience and qualifications but had spent time in a doctor's office so he decided to go with her over me. He then added that he liked me so much he wanted my permission to keep my résumé on file so if for some reason things shouldn't work out with her, he could then call me back. I said sure because I'm NOT the kind of person who'd say no to anyone who wants to keep me on file.

Well low and behold, what do you know!?!?! I received a call earlier today from the doctor telling me it didn't work out with the gal he was so enthusiastic about hiring and wanted to know if I was still looking and, if so, still interested. I said yes to both and he wants me to start this Monday.

The only downside to this job is that it's part-time. I'll be working 3 days a week, 8 hours a day at a rate of $11 an hour which means I can retain my food stamps since I won't be surpassing a gross monthly income of $1,180.

Guess it's better than nothing, right? Not to mention, I can still continue to look for other work. Full-time work at that.

My only real concern in taking the job is what if it doesn't work out with me?

Then again, I don't know why it didn't work out for the last gal. Like my mom said, there could be a myriad of reasons why it didn't work out with her. He may not have liked her or may've had issues with her, but I have no way of knowing that for sure.

I say go for it because at least it something, youll still have time to look and interview, and you dont loose your food card. Hopefully it might turn into full time. Something like that happened to me I was unemployed interviewd for a job didnt get it they chose somebody else. 6 weeks later the chic called me that I interviewed with and offered me the position.. Apparently the woman who they hired flaked out and just up and quit one day and disappeared. That was a little over a month ago... So far I like it... Good luck =)

I see a situation where you have nothing to lose.

Do you have any employment right now? If not, take this. Get some money coming to you, like you said, you don't lose your food stamps, you get experience to put on a resume and, as people have been learning, apparently it's supposed to be easier to find a job if you are employed.

Take it for now, if you are currently unemployed, keep looking for better and save what you can.

It'd be nice if it did, but the doctor has a couple of other women on his staff who've been with him for the past 10 or so years and I distinctly remember him saying this would strictly be part-time.

No. I've been unemployed for close to 2 months now (June 3rd will make for 2 month). I have no other job offers on the table and no interviews scheduled in the weeks ahead.
