I will be looking for part time employment after I retire. My ideal job would be running a cash register on Friday, Saturday and Monday.

Does anyone know of a company that will hire someone for only 3 days a week.

Would there be a problem with my age - 62? I do not have a lot of experience with different jobs. I have only worked for 4 different companies in my life. I have always been lucky to find good jobs with interesting people. My first job was at Sears in the candy department. . . lots of fun . . . . the people I met were a hoot! And I am not just talking about the customers!

Part time minimum wage jobs are available. You may have to look for a while but you will find one.

Do you have any new businesses going in around you? I have a new Lowes store opening up close to my house. The thing about new businesses is that they are desperate to get the manpower. If I wanted a job; I would knock on doors and see if anybody is hiring.

The early retirement is a pain. You can only earn so much before they take out $.50 on a dollar. I have been doing that for the last three years. Supposedly you do not lose anything - they are supposed to give you credit when you turn your full retirement age. I work until I hit my magic number and then I “retire” until January of the next year. Fortunately I have an employer that likes my work and rehires me every January (so far).

Look into a driving position, I see lots of people in their 60's and 70's that are parts runners for the local car dealerships. Also see similar people driving around and picking up and delivering medical labs or working for title companies.

My father-in-law is in his 70s and delivers parts. I once worked at a car dealer and our runner was in his 70s.

Sounds like the OP just wants to stay busy and not trying to make a lot of money. If he only wants to work Fridays and Saturdays, I imagine a lot of retail places would be glad to have him as lots of people want off those days.

Bagger at grocery store, perhaps?

Why not become a Demonstrator?

You show the customer products, offer them coupons and promote your product? ( you work at trade shows, supermarkets and events)

This job is primarily done on the weekends. ( Often, Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

It's what I do part time

I would say Home Depot. Seems like they hire a lot of retirees and I personally know a guy who worked for them after he retired for the health insurance. I think they have changed in recent years where maybe they don't pay as well or have benefits that are as good, but still probably okay for a part time job.

I would also think that any retail company would jump at having someone willing to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

My father worked at a book store after retiring from teaching after 30 years. He liked it a lot. It got him out of the house and there were no misbehaving students nor obnoxious parents to deal with. He like to joke arround about the "relationship section" which was the PC term for the smut section.

My FIL sells RVs on the side and lvoes it. He's 70 and sets his own hours and takes only what he can handle, plus is off in the winter.
