I've had the chance to be involved in the hiring process of lab technicians and am continuously appalled by how stupid the interviewing process is. They ask the same lame psychobabble questions like what are your weaknesses or describe a time when you had conflicting deadlines. They then completely disregard the candidates' qualifications and decide based on how eloquent their answers are to all that BS. I watched them pass up several candidates that I thought were well qualified and pick a smooth talking BSer (for the third time).

This person has now broken equipment, wasted chemicals, necessitated others to repeat analyses, caused a back-log. I've had to even get involved in helping out. I swear HR and their lame @ss interview BS will be the death of companies. I'm glad the stupid company I work for has now lost tens of thousands as they so deserve it.

Maybe instead of complaining you could coach that person and help them? Possibly that person is overwhelmed and a little bit of confidence or kindness would help.

It really sucks when a society/organization rewards the bullsh1tters and smooth-talkers versus the doers.

All you are "doing" is complaining. If you want your company to be better, than do something to make it better. If you were part of the interview process, why didn't you ask the questions you mentioned, instead of just sitting there, and then backstabbing your employers. Gees

As an employee of the company you have a vested interest in its success.

I am a contract employee I was just there to help them evaluate the candidates' technical skills. I really have no say in who they hire or stake in the company.

We are a world full of symbolism over substance.

Everyone has tried but this guy simply does not have the attributes and skill sets necessary to succeed. In analytical chem you need an attention to detail, a patient and precise hand to use the lab equipment accurately and precisely.

He also seems to have very little practical knowledge as well.

I guess I am confused. If you were there to evaluate his technical skills--- are you saying that they ignored your feedback?

Or are you saying that the guy hid it well enough in an interview?
