I'm 34, I got my BA in Film in animation, (yeah I tried to 'follow my dreams', I should've gone into science or the medical field). I've never really worked in animation, I don't have much non-school experience in it, although most of the jobs I've gotten were due to my knowledge of computers and quick learning of software and technical expertise.
A year and a half ago, I found out I had a rare brain defect and had to have brain surgery to correct it. Ever since then, I get migraines frequently, I try not to drive after dark, my thinking and reaction times are slower, my memory is not good, I can't do lots of things at once like I used to, I get distracted very easily and I think my verbal communication skills have suffered. I also am no longer content to sit in a cubicle for the rest of my life now. So I really don't want to do these sorts of sit on your a$$ types of jobs that I've had over the years, life is short and we (and I!) can go at any minute, so I want to enjoy life!
I have to move because the city I live in is expensive and stressful and eating up my savings like Pac-Man on a pill binge. And I can't handle the fast pace any more, I'm the slow turtle while all the rabbits are zooming past me giving me the finger. I want to move to a smaller town, pursue another career and/or maybe head back to school, but do you think it's worth it or wise at this point and after getting my brain pretty much re-wired? After reading everything above (thanks by the way), what kind of advice would you give me?
I think a good O.T. and neuro eval would be called for, to see what you can and can't do. It might not be something you love (or like) but ya gotta make a living. Best wishes.
It's never too late for anyone to go back to school or start a new career. With your medical condition, I don't personally know what field would be good for you, but I'm sure you can figure out something or others here can give you suggestions.
34 isn't old at all. I got off to a late start in my career. I just got hired for my dream job at 36, almost 37 & I'm still in grad school for it & won't graduate until 2014 when I'm 39. I still may eventually get my PhD too, but there's no rush for that.
