I'm 30 and unhappy with my current job. It pays my rent and it's very easy, but I fell myself getting dumber and I don't want to be here in a year...or even 6 months, but I am willing to stay until I have something else or at least a viable plan.

BTW if you're unemployed and in the DC area, have a college degree and/or a military background as well as a clean record, my employer's always hiring. Ask for details.

So I'm thinking of going back to school for a masters as that seems to be necessary for staying competitive in today's job market, but I don't know what I'm interested in. My work history shows no clear career path. I've been in retail, TV production. office administration, and private security. I've been thinking about landscape design, but I don't know if the degree is worth the money. I've also been toying with buying a franchise and since my father is a franchise consultant, I was hoping he could help me find a good fit.

Before I do anything I was thinking about seeing a career coach/counselor for advice, which is where my question lies. Have you ever been to a career coach and, if so, was it worth the time and money? Any advice?

Thanks.

Kevin

I doubt it could hurt to see someone but my opinion is if you need someone else to tell you what career path to take, you're probably doing it wrong.
