I suffer from fibromyalgia, and among the multitude of symptoms this brings me, I'm lucky enough to also suffer from severe fluorescent light intolerance. Fluorescent lighting triggers severe vertigo, nausea, tension headaches, and migraines in me. I lost my job recently due to this and can't handle sitting around unemployed any longer!! I obviously have limited choices on a career now seeing as the majority of businesses use fluorescents I'd like something I can school for in 2 years or less, that is year-round work, and something that will still support a decent living (preferrably $35,000/year MINIMUM)!

Any ideas? I've thought of:

Horticulture/Landscape Designer -- (which I'm really interested in, but the nearest college offering it is 1.5 hours away!)

Driver (yeah, too many speeding tickets in my life time for this one!)

Park Ranger - don't know much about this one...

I'm not really sure what else there is. Most outdoor jobs seem seasonal, and low pay. What about airports? What outdoor jobs would they have there? Any ideas are appreciated. I'm at a loss and really don't want to spend the rest of my life on disability!!

Wow. That's a tough one. I was thinking of some jobs I've had and the only time I wasn't under fluorescent lights was when I was a bartender or driving!

Park Ranger sounds great...but that's because I would love to have a job like that.

How long has it been since your last speeding ticket? Some companies go back 10 years, some only go back three years.

Ok, just off the top of my head, (these are not all necessarily good ideas nor what you might be interested in):

Park Ranger
Game Warden
Police officer (maybe..not sure with your fibromyalgia)
Security
Parking Ticket lady
Toll booth operator, (if you have any)
Construction, (sign holder makes decent money for what they do)
Bartender (hey, they can make some decent tips!)
Astronomer! (Dark!)
Mechanic
Welder...although, maybe the flash will disturb you..don't know...plus again the fibormyalgia thing...

Dang. Pretty difficult. No offices or stores at all. Not a lot of manual labor because of the pain...boy, that really does take away a lot!

Some hotels tend to have dimmer lighting, not fluorescent.

Maybe find something legit, work from home? Maybe see if you can find an "office" job but be able to telecommute? That might be a good alternative.

That's rough, I hope you are able to find something!
