I believe they are hiring again. But the working conditions are not for everyone. On call 24/7, out in all kinds of weather, sometimes dangerous. Not if you have or want a family; one railroader joked that successful railroad marriages are as rare as steam locomotives.
I was disappointed to see they were not hiring for skilled trade and apprenticeships positions. A lot of young folks could really benefit from that type of opportunity.
