If you applied for a job you wanted, and you send your resume, wait a few weeks, and you dont hear anything. So, you frequesnt the company's website you submitted your resume to, and at the bottom of the page it says to all applicants, "no phone calls please."

Ok, so you wait a few weeks, hear nothing, and see this... what do you do? Do you just not call and be out of a potential job, or do you call anyway and express your interest?

I call anyway. They don't have to know my name. I don't need to know about my specific application, only when they plan to schedule interviews.

Risk/Reward
What is the worst that can happen if you call? You get told you don't have the job.
Chances of your bollixing your chances after a few weeks are nil.

A more professional way of handling it is a well worded follow-up letter, but that is usually done only after you have had an interview.

I was thinking of writing a letter, expressing my interest for future positions. Should I hand write it or type it? For some reason it seems more personal if I were to hand write it.

NO NO NO ! ! !

They have a reason for this ( no phone calls ) and if I owned the company,
or intervied you in person, or found out you called any way,
I would tear up your app right in front of you, and say get off of the property.

You do not listen, or take orders, or do what you are told,
You can not be trusted in my company, and we do not want you ! ! !

Also if they have not called you they don't need you right now, but maybe later ! ! !
.

If youre going to write a letter, type it. Handwritten can be harder to read. Company doesn't care if something is more personal or not, they're not your friend they're a business.

feh. Someone having sent a resume and asking for a follow-up is different from some one who cold calls looking for work. There are places where what you say is true, and there are others where you have to beat your way through the guards to even be noticed.

I suspect the whole approach being used is only marginally effective anyway. A resume sent without a specific person as the target is like a paper airplane shot over a manure pit.

Ok, so I called... and asked to speak to someone in Human Resources... the lady said, "I work in H.R., I can help you." So it didnt seem like a big no-no. Who knows...

...the position has been filled.
