Right now, I'm in Raleigh but applying to jobs in Washington DC and Philly, and I understand the logic behind using a family member or colleague's address. But to those of you who have done it or suggested it, how do you explain yourself to the recruiter without looking silly when they ask about the location of your current job in relation to the city where you're wanting to move?

you can also rent yourself a mailing address. I think UPS stores offer po boxes w/street addresses.

I keep getting calls from out of state and none in my town. Why do they call out of state people, ask stupid questions and then you never hear from them? I am ready to move and willing if they would give me a proper phone interview with a manager, not an HR flunkie.

I was unemployed in Jacksonville, FL and was hired for a job in Seattle, WA via the internet and a phone interview.

As others have said an in-demand skill set is key. I work in CNC machining which is a strong field in this area. I don't have a college degree but I do have 20 years experience.

I didn't do anything special in the job search... Just went to Google and found some listings and then emailed resumes. I got a call back and the hiring process took about a week.

I worked that job for 2 years and just changed last month to another job doing the same thing... The 35% increase in pay was just a bit better than the 4% end of year raise I got from the old job.
