I suspect that will wipe them out financially much more than the pay cut.
Not in the Federal government.

Either you take that deal or you have the no job option.....so I think the majority would take the paycut and readjust their life..

Hell YES! I DID work 4 days a week for 20 years and now am working 5 days (for now). At some point I hope to go back to 4.

You learn to adjust your budget and the extra day off is wonderful! Screw the money...

I could but would seek another job for sure. Through very hard work and perhaps some good fortune I have been employed continuously since 1997 but always know in an at will work environment anything can happen. Always be ready for a rainy day because one will arrive at some point even if its a short crisis.

Because of the sequester they will have to stay home one day a week (and not be paid for that day) until Congress passes a new budget.

How about you? If you are currently working full time and being paid for working 40 hours a week, could you survive working only four days a week and having your pay cut by 20%?

I am semi retired now but remember back when I was working full time I had to take off one day a week during a slow period for the company I worked at. My pay was also cut 20%. This lasted for a year. I LOVED IT! I adjusted my expectation and took lots of long weekend trips and really enjoyed the four day work week.

How about you, would you like to work four days a week but have your pay cut by 20%?
I'd just pick up a second job.

I am told that the temp agencies are jammed with applicants who want to work doing anything on the days they can't work. Retail stores too.

There are many ways to find a few hours here and there or a gig on craigslist.

Yes... if it meant I wouldn't be on call...

A couple of years ago, we went to a 36 hour week, closing in Friday at noon... lasted almost a year.

I was the only one it did not apply... my time on the job actually increased because others were off.

Being salaried there wasn't anything to do about it.

What's the federal cutoff? I know we have lots of NGA people in town not receiving benefits, so there is some level of hours cutoff.
